Iperius Backup 8.2 – Incremental and Differential Drive Image CBT

Drive Image CBT:

From version 8.2 of Iperius Backup, a very powerful feature has been introduced: drive image through an advanced CBT (Changed Block Tracking) driver capable of tracking all changes on disks to perform incremental or differential backups.

This feature significantly improves the performance and efficiency of Iperius Backup in terms of speed and space savings.

During configuration, you will be prompted to install the CBT components. A Kernel Filter Driver and a VSS Provider will be installed in the system to track all disk changes, allowing Iperius to copy only the modified blocks (block level backup). They will also handle VSS snapshots for every application or file in use.

The types of backups allowed in this new disk cloning mode include:

1. Forever Incremental Backup: A full backup (a VHDX image file) is created, which is then updated each time with the differences.
2. Incremental Backup: A full backup (VHDX image file) is created along with a set number of incremental backups, containing only the data changed since the last backup. This allows for granular restoration to a specific date while maintaining optimal space management.
3. Differential Backup: A full backup (VHDX image file) is created along with a set number of differential backups, containing only the data changed since the last full backup. This allows for granular restoration with optimal performance to a specific date while maintaining good space management.

Finally, remember that Iperius drive images can be explored for single file restore (the VHDX file) and that bare-metal recovery (disaster recovery) can be performed even on different hardware by creating a bootable disk or USB device with the Iperius Recovery Environment.
